Hola, I'm Güilu

MY OBJECTIVE IS TO GUIDE YOU TO LEARN IN AN EFFECTIVE AND ENJOYABLE WAY. TO CREATE A THRIVING CONNECTION WITH SPANISH LANGUAGE. WITH A METHODOLOGY THAT IS DIFFERENT FROM THE ONE OF ANY ACADEMY. YOU WILL LEARN HOW TO USE SPANISH IN REAL LIFE.

To me, learning a language is more than developing abilities to communicate efficiently. Is to acquire a new way to see the world. To think, to create and to express ourselves, acknowledging the culture that our words carry.

Online certified Spanish teacher and educational material creator.

DELE examiner by Instituto Cervantes.

My path to teaching Spanish

I was born in Mexico, 25 years ago. Since I was toddler, I fell in love with languages. I became fascinated with the idea of saying something I already knew with completely different words and sounds. From a young age, I started taking English lessons every Saturday in my local university. I wasn’t demotivated by the fact that I had to wake up early another day of the week, because the thought of learning this new code made me feel deeply excited. This passion led me to get a C1 certificate in English from Cambridge University.

When I had to choose my bachelor’s degree, I felt confused by the variety of options. It took some courage to remember and listen my inner girl desire to be an English teacher. In the end, I decided to study Educational Sciences in La Salle University, a degree with many options to impact education. In my studies I learned that it is possible to educate in a different way and to change the world one lesson at a time. This is why I use an eclectic approach to create lessons that impact real life needs.

After getting a scholarship to teach English and Spanish writing abilities to students from bilingual schools as an intern, in Washington D.C, I was captivated by language teaching, specifically in my mother tongue

I also taught English to Mexican students in High School and worked training teachers and coordinating language and High school academic areas. But after an incredible opportunity to teach Spanish to Korean students in my city, my focus changed. I got certified in teaching Spanish to foreign students by ELEInternacional and as a DELE examiner by Instituto CervantesAnd that is how  Malinalli Spanish room was created.

The pandemic made me realize that we can connect despite any distance. I found the world of online learning and with it, a new way to guide my students to learn my beautiful language.

I love learning with my students!

Meet Goldie

Meet Goldie

She is Goldie, my first roommate in Malinalli Spanish room. The cutest and most intelligent Chihuahua in the world. She has developed amazing language skills after witnessing all our classes 😉

She listens to me when I think aloud while planning my lessons, loves watching series in different languages and taking sun baths in the mornings.

What I love...

Travelling

I really enjoy meeting new people and learn from different cultures. This way I can reflect on my own way of living and find new ways to discover the world.

Reading an writing poetry

I believe poetry is one of the most beautiful ways to express oneself. We discover every feeling can have their own way to rhyme.

Singing

Music helps me to connect with myself and stay in the present. It has also been a way to develop more vocabulary in different languages.

Collecting pictures of the sun

I started this collection some years ago. I truly adore to see how my lenses capture the sun in different times of the day and how its light makes every thing around look prettier.

Doing yoga

It helps me to keep in shape and start the day more focused on what I plan to do. Nowadays, I do it through Youtube videos at home.

Learning new languages

As i mentioned before, learning languages became a passion since I was pretty little. However, this is something that continues being important in my life. This is a picture of some Korean lessons I took last year. I’d like to learn náhuatl in the near future.

I love to continue learning, that is why I am constantly taking courses and workshops with professionals around the world.

I have obtained a certificate as a DELE examiner in levels A1/A2-B1 escolar, B1 and B2.

I enjoy witnessing my students progress in all their skills while they fall in love with the language.

Who was Malinalli?

This is a story of a Mexican woman, who just like you and I, was passionate about languages. She used them to change the destiny of a country and she became one of the symbols of the introduction of Spanish as the official language in America.

Malinalli was an indigenous woman from Mexico who had a fundamental role in the integration of Mexican prehispanic and Spanish cultures. She was a brilliant woman that knew the two main languages from our old Mexico. However, she is usually considered a betrayer, because she worked for Spanish people. She learned Spanish and became an interpreter, advisor, and intermediary, for Hernán Cortés, a Spanish explorer and conquistador. Her story, just as those of many other women, has been mistold.

She was the daughter of a Nahua noble, but somehow was given as a slave to the Maya, when she was still a girl. Ten years later, Maya gave her, along with other 19 women, as a slave to Hernán Cortés. She learned Spanish really fast and it was thanks to her language abilities that the civilizations in Mexico were able to communicate with Spanish people.

Both, indigenous and Spanish people, deeply respected her due to her negotiation and language skills. A supernatural character in Mexican history, a woman that raised her voice in three different languages and was part of the greatest decisions of her time.

Her voice was heard and remembered. With Malinalli Spanish room, so will yours!
